How “More Love Letters” lights up lives

A cause after our own hearts ♥

In the global movement of heartfelt correspondence and transformative empathy, More Love Letters stands out for its simple yet powerful mission: connecting people through handwritten encouragement and support.

A Global Community of Hope

Founded in Atlanta by Hannah Brencher in 2011, More Love Letters invites people from all around the world to participate in monthly campaigns. Individuals who need emotional support – often nominated by loved ones – are celebrated through personal stories posted on their site. Writers choose a story that moves them, pen a letter of encouragement, and send it to the address provided. At month’s end, bundles of hundreds of these letters are delivered – often bringing tears of joy to recipients who had no idea support was on the way.

Since its inception, the organisation has mailed over 250,000 letters across all 50 states and more than 70 countries – building a community of strangers bonded by love and solidarity.

How It Works
  • Nominate someone: A friend or family member shares a brief, heartfelt story describing what the individual is going through – from illness or grief to loneliness or mental health struggles.
  • Write letters: Volunteers choose stories that resonate and write heartfelt, hand-addressed notes that reinforce hope.
  • Bundle and deliver: At campaign close, letters are collated into a Love Letter Bundle and delivered by a liaison to the recipient. Some bundles have contained over 400 letters.
Why It Matters

Receiving a declaration of kindness – in ink on paper – from strangers can be profoundly uplifting. For many recipients, the unexpected influx of heartfelt messages proves that the world still holds compassion and connection – even across great distances. And for writers, the process of crafting and sharing meaningful words can be personally healing, too.

One writer described the deeper impact best: “The topic unlocks something in people – they do beautiful things with these letters, and they can really help change someone’s life.”

Global Love Letters + More Love Letters: Kindred Spirits

At Global Love Letters, our mission resonates with More Love Letters in many ways:

  • Human connection across distance: We believe words matter, and a simple letter can bridge gaps of time, space, and experience.
  • Community storytelling: By sharing personal stories, both platforms give context – and deeper meaning – to each letter.
  • Surprise and impact: The moment someone uncovers even just one, or dozens or hundreds of love letters is unforgettable. It speaks to resilience, surprise, and humanity – themes at the heart of Global Love Letters.
Ways to Get Involved

Inspired? Here’s how to join the movement:

  1. Mail a letter — Visit the website, read current nominees, and send your own words of hope to someone who could use a lift.
  2. Nominate someone — Loved ones, friends, or community members facing challenges? Share their story to give them a chance at a Love Letter Bundle.
  3. Leave a letter — as with Global Love Letters, all you need is some good old-fashioned stationery to start writing letters and leaving them in public places for others to find.
  4. Spread the word — Share campaigns on social media or with your local network to amplify impact.
  5. Host a writing event — Gather friends, classmates, or colleagues together to write a batch of letters during a service activity or reflection session.

At Global Love Letters, we celebrate how More Love Letters transforms lives – one mailed note at a time. Their blend of compassion, storytelling, and global reach echoes our shared belief: words have power, and even small acts of kindness can ripple outward with enormous impact.
